What a beautiful word, surrender…It even flows from my mouth sweetly, it’s like a warm word, like if it had a color to me, it would be a warm, soft brown, mocha color. When in fact, it’s a very powerful word.

𝑩𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝒅𝒆𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏~

A transformative act of yielding oneself fully to the will and authority of God.

Surrender, in Hebrew, means: to align or arrange oneself under the command of a divine viewpoint.

**A great scripture comes to mind**

𝑷𝒔𝒂𝒍𝒎 46:10. 𝑩𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒍, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑰 𝒂𝒎 𝑮𝒐𝒅; 𝑰 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆 𝒆𝒙𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔, 𝑰 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆 𝒆𝒙𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒉!

The word 𝑺𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒍 in that scripture is defined in Strongs Concordance: derived from the Hebrew word raphah, a primitive root; to slacken (in many {applications} literally or figuratively): {abate} {cease} {consume} draw [toward {evening]} {fail} (be) {faint} be (wax) {feeble} {forsake} {idle} {leave} let alone ({go} {down}) (be) {slack} {stay} be {still} be {slothful} (be) weak (-en).

The similarities of the words “still” and “surrender” are really cool. Surrender basically means to “Be Still!” You guys didn’t know you were going to get a vocabulary lesson today, did you! Hahaha!

The act of surrender…I, often times find myself on my face during my quiet time with the Lord, or while I’m worshipping. It’s really invigorating, freeing! It’s when I let it all out, when I give it all to my Heavenly Father. Sometimes my surrender looks simply like a quiet prayer so that I can hand it back over to Him and reposition my heart back towards Him, because let’s be honest, I try to take my life back into my hands; and sometimes it looks like calling a friend and being held accountable! But see, surrender is an action, a verb meaning there has to be an actual action done in order for the surrender to happen. It’s showing the Lord that you are vulnerable to Him, that you are willing to do whatever He says and there is nothing I wouldn’t do for HIM! Psalm 46:10 says, “𝑩𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒍,” to me, that is fully surrendered because in order to trust what the Lord is doing, you have to BE STILL! As a matter of fact this entire Psalm is talking about how God is our refuge, HE will be exalted in every way, HE will have the victory!! It is not a call for us to be physically still, it’s actually telling me that His strength is perfect when we are weak.

The artist, Vanessa Horabuena has a piece titled “The Art of Surrender” this is how I picture what the Father sees when we give Him everything.

Last night when sharing this with my cousin, she brought to my attention the word “know” and gave me the meaning…Yall, this is going to blow your minds!

-𝑲𝒏𝒐𝒘-

To perceive with certainty; to understand clearly, to have a clear and certain perception of truth, fact, or anything that actually exist.

The Hebrew word for know: 𝒀𝒂𝒅𝒂 it explains and indicates a combination of close, warm and even passionate intimacy, combined with head knowledge.

“𝑩𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘” is telling me that I am to surrender to Him and to have an intimate relationship with HIM! A surrendered relationship, one that I cannot live without. One that is so intimate, that it’s only me and Him! This is bringing tears to my eyes that I actually get to do that! Like, what in the world. ME, a sinner, with a horrible past, a past that one would possibly think I could never be saved. BUT HE LOVES ME! HE LONGS FOR ME! He desires the surrender and He wants me to KNOW Him! I am just wrecked right now.

Sure, surrender (be still) is not easy, in fact it’s a daily sometimes hourly act. It hurts, it burns, and it makes you ache, your heart ache, and in your own flesh and mind you think there is no possible way to even take another step. But see, this is where KNOWING HIM and trusting that He is in it with you where, when you come out of that particular storm the feeling of the cold rain going over you and how uncomfortable it is, the wind blowing and dust in your eyes, the sting of the raindrops hitting your skin…it all sucks! BUT, when the clouds move and the sun comes out, that victory is even sweeter! In the chaos (of your mind) the surrender I give to Him, He in turn gives me a sound mind, and the spirit of fear HAS TO GO! Because I have the authority through Christ Jesus!!

Ya see, when we surrender our lives to Him, and begin to know Him, He is able to show us His glory! Come On!! Can I get an AMEN!

Blessings!

Love, Jennifer
